FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 8
BENCH/START WRAP-UP
October 28, 2003
Domanick Davis, Reggie Wayne, and Kevin Faulk highlighted some of this week's best picks. After a hot week last week, Troy Brown was one of our better bench calls, but we didn't get them all right. Delhomme bites us again. Enough of the appetizer, let's get to the meat … Join us as we take a look back at our fantasy football week 8 predictions for bench / start and see for yourself how things went.
Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Reggie Wayne - If you followed our advice and gave Wayne the starting nod, you were not disappointed: 6 receptions for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns (and one of those a long TD for extra points in big play bonus leagues), was a monster game. Harrison owners were disappointed with the attention on Wayne, while Wayne owners were left with warm fuzzes all over.
Domanick Davis - If you followed our advice and started this rookie, you were well rewarded. Over 130 total yards and 2 TD are a great start for your #1 running back. Considering that most of you started him thinking he was your #2RB, you were more than happy.
Santana Moss - It is a shame that Moss had a fumble. Other than that, Moss had a fantastic game. With over 100 total yards and a long TD (60 yards), he had a great game. Moss was another great fill for teams in need of a playoff run boost.
Baltimore D - Ray-Ray and the Ravens bounced back from their embarrassing game versus the Bengals last week. This week they stuck it to the Denver Broncos and only allowed 194 yards and 6 points scored. 2 INTs and 2 Sacks were nice icing on the cake of a great defensive performance.
Steve Smith - With 110 total yards of offense, Smith followed up our prediction with a great game. If you happened to have started him in reception leagues, Smith's 9 receptions were a very nice bonus as well.
Kevin Faulk - While Faulk still hasn't scored a TD this season, he did have a great game and his best game of the season by far. With over 150 yards of total offense and 6 receptions, Faulk was a great start in almost all fantasy scoring systems.
Aaron Brooks - If Brooks wouldn't have fumbled, he would have been an even better start. Still he was a solid gamer with two TDs.
Bench:
Drew Brees - After watching Monday Night Football in Arizona (free game! We wish we were there), we were wondering if Brees completed more passes to the Dolphins than to his own team. With no TDs and only 190 yards passing, Brees' 3 INTs sure made it feel like he was felling a little color-blind in the desert. Brees was a good bench call.
Ashley Lelie - Only 28 yards is a bad day for any receiver that you start. If you benched him you were pleased.
Eric Parker - Parker and the San Diego passing game have really tailed off. It is best to avoid them at this point (minus Boston). Parker was a good bench call.
Troy Brown - After last week's explosion by Brown of 131 yards and a TD many of you may have wanted to plug Brown in there and see what he can do. If you followed our advice and benched him, you were very thankful: 2 receptions and 13 total yards is a very bad day.
Kelly Campbell - Campbell is starting to see some balls opposite of Randy Moss, but this past weekend he was inactive. While we don't know if we can take credit for a great call in this case, we are sure that those of you who avoided Mr. Campbell are pleased.
Andre Davis - Davis had the most yards out of the messy WR situation in Cleveland, but the bad news for any of you who went against our advice and started him is that he only had 36 yards.
Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Garrison Hearst - Hearst was only a so-so start with his 68 total yards for this past weekend, but he and the 49ers really let us down. We thought that San Francisco would strike gold in the desert, instead they only found fool's gold and lost the game against a very bad Cardinals squad.
Bench:
Keyshawn Johnson - Normally a TD for a guy we recommended to bench would be a completely blown call on our part, but since that was Johnson's
only catch of the game and it was only for 7 yards, Johnson is in our so-so calls of the week.
Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Brian Westbrook - Westbrook wasn't a complete zero, but he was bad enough to land in our missed calls. You can officially mark down the running back situation in Philly as muddled. After several weeks of solid games from Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter put up a 100 yard effort and 2 TDs out of nowhere. If you were counting on Westbrook, be concerned. If you are planning on counting on Buckhalter … be concerned as well.
Dez White - With only 36 yards, White let us down this week and fell into our bad calls category.
Jake Delhomme - Since Delhomme didn't score, he didn't make our good start list. If you gave Delhomme the call he let you down. In the future we should probably avoid discussing Delhomme, he seems to do the opposite of what we think every time we consider him.
Bench:
Any Jets RB - While neither RB for the Jets had a super day, they managed to both put in a respectable effort. Jordan took the TD and Martin took the yards. Either way, they both managed to squeak into our busted calls of the week.
