FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 7
BENCH/START WRAP-UP
October 26, 2004
Week 7 was one of those wild weeks in the NFL. We hope you
aren’t a betting man or you might have lost your shirt this weekend.
The Bengals stomped the Broncos, the #1 rushing defense in the
league allowed 8 rushing TDs, and even the Miami Dolphins won?
As you might imagine, this wasn’t one of our best weeks, but we did
manage to make a few good calls. As always, we hold ourselves
accountable for the good and the bad calls.
Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Byron Leftwich – Leftwich has been one of the hottest QBs in the league over the past
few weeks. He didn’t disappoint owners in all scoring formats. He passed
the 300 yard mark in passing and tacked on 2 TD passes and a 2 point conversion.
Marcus Robinson – Coo coo ca-choo, Marcus Robinson, fantasy football owners love you
more than you will know (Wo wo wo). With the injury to Randy Moss, Robinson
has been money in the bank. 33 yards and a TD are nothing to complain about
in any scoring format.
Bench:
Andre Davis – Davis had a huge week 6 and we told you to sit him week 7. We
thought that his injury might hamper his performance. It did. He didn’t
play. While this isn’t exactly a homerun of a prediction, you are still gald
you sat Davis and his zero fantasy points.
Randy Hymes – Hymes went into week 7 as the Ravens #1 fantasy WR. We suspect
that the Bills secondary would be able to stop his streak of good fortune.
The did and Hymes caught 1 ball for 3 yards.
Carson Palmer – palmer did lead his team to a victory and the Bengals looked good on
Monday night. However, the best part of the Bengals performance was all of the
turnovers. Palmer didn’t even break 200 yards passing and only had 1 TD to go
with his 1 INT.
Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Nate Burlson – We double dipped on the Minnesota WRs and it paid off. Burleson
had a great day in point per reception leagues with 6 recpetions and a nice yardage
total. We wish that he would have scored, but you can’t always get whay you want.
St. Louis Rams Defense – If you were in a league that awards heavily for the sack,
you were very happy with the Rams whopping 6 sacks. We would have liked to
have seen some turnovers, but anytime your defense gets 6 sacks, it is a good day.
Amos Zereoue – Famous Amos didn’t have the game we hoped for, but he continues to
show up at every game. Right now Zereoue is a nice 3rd or 4th RB option, but
not more than that until the Raiders’ offense gets out of it’s funk and feeds him the
ball. Nice yardage for Zereoue, but no TD.
Trent Green – The Chiefs’ offense dominated the Falcons. You would expect the
QB of the winning team in a blowout like this to have solid numbers, but they weren’t
what we had hoped for. The Chiefs scored 8 rushing TDs and no passing TDs.
While Green had no interceptions, his lack of TDs hurt his performance. The other
thing that hurt Green’s performance was the fact that the Chiefs put in his backup in
with the rest of the scrubs when game was well within hand.
Bench:
Keenan McCardell – McCardell really surprised us with a decent game this week.
Everyone had better keep an eye on this disgruntled employee with MUCH to prove.
Chester Taylor – It really surprised us that the Bills didn’t completely shut down the
Ravens’ run game. Taylor didn’t score, but he did have a solid stack of yards.
Making him one of our so-so fantasy calls of the week.
Chad Pennington – Pennington managed to play error free ball, and ran in the Jets only
TD of the game. We feel like Pennington will improve as the season goes on, but
right now his fantasy starts are mediocre at best.
Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Denver Broncos Defense – The Broncos played pretty well, but just kept giving up the
long ball. Bailey needs to concentrate more when he is going up against a top-flight
WR like Chad Johnson. The Broncos will be a fine NFL defense as the season goes on,
but we aren’t getting on their fantasy bandwagon until they start causing more turnovers.
Terry Glenn – Glenn was inline for a solid fantasy day, but he had to leave the game with
an injury. He may miss several weeks.
T. J. Duckett – This game just got out of hand with the Chiefs setting NFL records.
Duckett had no chance to get things rolling once the Holmes and Blaylock train hit full
speed. Be careful with the Falcons’ RBs. You never know who will carry the
load, but most of the time it will be Dunn.
Bench:
Emmitt Smith – We thought that the Cardinals and their D wouldn’t be up to the challenge,
but we must tip our hats. The Cardinals D got turnovers kept control of the game
and that let Smith get 26 carries and a TD. We have been humbled by the NFL’s all-time rushing leader.
Jeff Garcia – Garcia only had 236 yards and he did have an interception, but
his two TDs helped make him a reasonable start. Garcia should be considered a
nice fill in, but we hope you don’t have to rely on him on a week to week basis.
He is just as likely to give you a zero as a good game.
