FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 5
BENCH/START WRAP-UP
October 12, 2004
Week 5 had some great fantasy football predictions and some misses as well.
Duce Staley scored for the first time all season as we had hoped.
The Raiders Defense stunk up the joint as predicted. And Ahman Green
really let us down by having a horrible fantasy game on Monday Night Football.
Join us for the bench / start wrap up as we take credit for our good
calls and own up to our mistakes.
Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Duce Staley – Here we will just quote our start recommendation with inserted stats from
Staley’s solid fantasy performance: “He hasn’t scored all year (1 TD), but we feel like
this dual threat will have a solid game (117 yards) against divisional rival Cleveland.
Staley may have to break a long one to get to the stripe (it was a 25 yard TD score),
but we are hoping for a soaring game from this former Eagle and Gamecock.” -- Sometimes
these calls are eerie.
Warrick Dunn – Dunn turned in another solid performance. 75 total yards of offense a
solid 5 receptions and a touchdown made for a good weekend to start Dunn.
Derrick Mason – Mason didn’t let us down against the weak Green Bay secondary. 63
yards and a touchdown were welcome sights for his fantasy owners.
Bench:
Raiders Defense – If you stayed far, far away from the Raiders, you were very pleased.
1 int, 1 sack, and 35 POINTS ALLOWED! That is a poor game in almost any scoring system.
David Patten – 1 reception for 28 yards is a nasty game and you were glad you held off on this WR
after his huge week 4.
Donte Stallworth – 1 catch for 27 yards is a very poor fantasy performance. Benching
Stallworth was the correct call this past weekend.
Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Michael Pittman – Pittman rushed for 51 yards and had 5 receptions for 29. Not a bad game
in a point per reception league, but not enough to make our good calls of the week. We were
really surprised that the Saints didn’t give up more yards rushing.
Kerry Collins – Collins would have had a very solid game had he not turned over the ball again.
However, Collins did turn the ball over and that made him a so-so start of the week. Collins has
the potential to post big games, but his turnovers make him a risky pick to start every week. If
you need a spot start here and there, Collins could be your man, but we highly recommend not counting on
Collins as your week in and week out starter.
Bench:
Any Dolphins QB – Feeley had a horrible game, so you were happy that you didn’t start him, but Fielder
gave just enough to make this bench a so-so call of the week. In most leagues, you probably could
have found a better option than Fiedler off the waivers, but that doesn’t excuse this prediction.
Eric Moulds – 54 yards and 0 TDs is nothing to write home about, but the 6 receptions are just enough to
get Moulds out of our correct calls and into our so-so bench calls week 5.
Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Ahman Green – WOW! Green dropped the ball on this one (literally). 38 total yards and a
fumble. We are at a loss for words. You should continue to start Green unless you have a
truly loaded team. We expect him to rebound, but this was a huge busted call this week.
Terry Glenn – The Giants bowed up and didn’t let Mrs. Glenn in the end zone. Bad call on this Glenn
start. You were probably as mad as us about Glenn’s performance, but remember his is just a WR and
they will do these types of things to you on a regular basis.
Bench:
Drew Brees – Brees made the Jags D and us look like fools this week. Brees played a solid
game and most teams would have been happy to start the rebounding QB.
Any Lions RB – The solid Falcons run D was pushed around by the Lions on Sunday. Pinner only had
79 total yards and only 1 reception, but his TD makes this call a busted call week 5.
