Wrap Up of FootballDocs Bench / Start

It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our advice--both good and bad.  In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 4
BENCH/START WRAP-UP

October 05, 2004

Week 4 was another great week of fantasy football.   We pulled out a few great bye week calls, so hopefully they made your lineup better.   Emmitt Smith, De’Shaun Foster, Byron Leftwich, and the Jets D were just a few of the great starts.   Join us for the bench / start wrap up as we take credit for our good calls and own up to our mistakes.

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Emmitt Smith – That’s right.   We told you start Emmitt.   If you didn’t, you are regretting it now.   Smith THREW a 21 yard TD pass, rushed for 127 yards, caught 1 pass for 18 yards, and scored a TD on the ground.   A huge game for our oldie but goodie.

Jamal Lewis – We don’t want to take too much credit for this one, but we just wanted to make sure you started this fantasy stud on Monday night.   He racked up some decent yardage and tacked on a one yard score.   You should probably always give Lewis the start unless he is suspended or in jail.

De’Shaun Foster – We saw a few places that suggested keeping this stud on the pine, so we just wanted to make sure that you didn’t.   Foster had a solid game and looked very good against the suddenly stout Falcons D.   Foster amassed 95 yards and a score.   A solid day.

New York Jets Defense – If you started the Jets, you should be very thankful.   The Jets had 3 interceptions, 3 sacks, 1 fumble, and returned one of those interceptions for a TD.   A great fantasy game from this D.

Jimmy Smith – The Jaguars were struggling going into week 4, but we told you to hang in there with this developing team.   Smith didn’t disappoint.   59 yards and his first TD of the season.

Byron Leftwich – Let’s face it.   Leftwich was just plain awful through his firstr three weeks.   We told you to ignore those numbers and give Leftwich the rock.   He came through with a big time game.   318 yards passing, no interceptions, 1 TD, and a 2 point conversion.

Isaac Bruce – As we expected, the Rams continued to feed Bruce the ball.   Bruce racked up a 7 reception 100 yard game.   A solid game for any fantasy WR.

Javon Walker – After Walker’s huge week 3 we encouraged you to go back to the well with Walker versus the Giants.   The Packers only scored 1 TD this past week.   Luckily for Walker owners, the TD was to him.

Bench:
Bobby Wade – Wade was the Bears leading fantasy WR going into week 4.   He only reeled in 36 yards.   An ugly fantasy day and a great player to leave on the bench.

Bill Schroeder – Schroeder had a huge week 3.   His week 4 was a big zero fantasy points.   Good thing you didn’t start him … right?

Santana Moss – The Phins proved to be the nasty D we expected.   Moss got 1 reception for 17 yards. Any fantasy scoring system would rank that performance as subpar.

Reggie Wayne – Wayne was on a huge roll coming into week 4, but it wasn’t meant to be.   2 receptions for 20 yards is an ugly day and it was a good reason to put Wayne on the bench.

Peerless Price – Some fantasy enthusiasts were expecting a big game from Price because he “was due”, but we urged you to leave his fanny on the pine.   Good call as Price only managed 22 yards.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Aaron Stecker – Stecker would have been a better start if he wouldn’t have fumbled.   Those will kill your fantasy week.   Nice yardage out of this replacement, but he “has to hang on to the football”.

Denver Broncos Defense – The Broncos kept the score under 14, but they didn’t get as many turnovers or fumbles as we had hoped for.

Bench:
Michael Pittman – Pittman managed to get 72 yards, but he didn’t score.   &2 isn’t a great game by any means, but it is just enough to place Pittman in our so-so bench calls of the week.

Any Dolphins RB – Just when you think it is safe to bench any ugly Dolphins RB the rears his head, Henry manages to put up a decent yardage total.

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Kerry Collins – Sometime you are wrong and then other times you are really wrong.   Collins had a HORRIBLE day.   We really missed the call on this bye week fill in.   Collins turned the ball over 5 times!!   YIKES

Jerry Porter – Porter started off hot, but received a hit that sent him out of the game.   40 yards isn’t bad, but isn’t not enough to get him out of our busted calls of the week.

Bench:
Arizona Cardinals Defense – We need to eat some crow for calling out the Cardinals D as a fraud.   The stuck it to the Saints and stuck it to our predictions.   The Cardinals D had a great game and would have been a good start.   We aren’t ready to jump on the Cardinals defensive bandwagon, but you might want to start thinking about picking them up if your defense isn’t getting the job done.
