Wrap Up of FootballDocs Bench / Start

It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our advice--both good and bad.  In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 4
BENCH/START WRAP-UP

September 30, 2003

Join us as we take a look back at our fantasy football week 4 predictions for bench / start.   We have the good (David Carr), the bad (Warrick Dunn), and the Ugly (Corey Dillon) all bundled up for you in our weekly fantasy wrap up.

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Stephen Davis - Davis had his first score as a Panther this past weekend.   If you started Davis, you enjoyed his 191 total yards, 4 receptions, and a touchdown.   We used the euphemism that Davis running through the Falcons would be "like a hot knife through butter."   That seems like a perfect explanation for the inability of the Falcons to slow down Davis.   They knew it was coming, the people in the stands knew it was coming, even the folks at home knew it was coming and the Falcons STILL couldn't stop it.

David Carr - So far we are 4 for 4 on our "I did the QB free fall and hit rock bottom" picks of the week.   Carr made our fourth pick in a row for a lower tier QB picked to click.   Carr's 234 yards passing, 1INT, 1TD passing and 1TD rushing were more than just OK.   Carr probably won more than a few fantasy games out there.   Hopefully, your team was one of them.

Lamar Gordon - With 88 total yards and a touchdown, Gordon was a great start last week.   Is it that Martz figured out that he needed to run the ball or has there been something wrong with Marshall Faulk all year?   Either way Gordon is the man now and he is looking good.

Andre Johnson - Johnson was another guy showing up big time in point per reception leagues.   An excellent 8 receptions for 97 yards.   Even if you weren't in reception leagues, that yardage was still very nice.

Charlie Garner - Garner's yardage alone would have landed him in the so-so picks of the week, but he salvaged his game with a much needed touchdown.

Dallas Cowboys Defense - The Cowboys D keep their points allowed under 7, snagged a few fumbles and won the game.   In leagues that reward strong defensive play like this, the Cowboys were a nice filler for any of the top Ds on bye.

Anquan Boldin - If Boldin wouldn't have fumbled, he would have been through the roof in reception leagues.   However, he was still a good start in those leagues with 7 receptions for 86 yards.

Fred Taylor - 94 total yards 4 receptions and a touchdown to boot.   The "Fraud" doesn't look too fraudulent so far; especially with all of the top running back who are having injury problems.

Bench:
Kelly Campbell - 1 catch and 13 total yards just about says it all of this performance.   Campbell fell far short of his 85 yards and a touchdown from the previous week.

Warrick Dunn - If you watched this game and started Dunn, it made you wish you had Stephen Davis.   23 total yards and 1 reception was an ugly performance for the floundering Falcons running back.

Joe Burns - Well, they TRIED to run the ball with Burns, but 17 yards rushing and only 34 receiving will not get the job done as a starting fantasy running back.   Benching Burns was the right call.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
William Green - Last week was Green's best week since week 1, but Green's 64 total yards were nothing to crow about.   He did get three receptions to help you out in leagues that reward points for receptions.

Bench:
Jerome Pathon - We said Horn would demand more balls and he did.   Horn had 6 receptions compared to Pathon's 2.   However, one of those catches was a money ball, and in fantasy football a TD can make an OK game look like a good one in a heartbeat.

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Corey Dillon - Dillon left the game with an injury, and left us high and dry with this pick to start.   Injuries can be tough to predict!

Bench:
Joey Harrington - Harrington looked Mile High in the eye and didn't blink.   His team didn't come out on top, but he turned in a very respectable start.

Amos Zereoue - "Famous Amos" put in a decent starting effort this week.   Good yardage, good receptions, and a TD make for a good fantasy start and a bad call by us.

Drew Bennett - This game was a disaster for our players recommended to bench.   Out of nowhere, Bennett turned in yet another good game.   Granted it wasn't near his week 3 performance and he did it on only 2 measly receptions, but one of those receptions was the money ball (TD) thus making him worth the start.
