FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 2
BENCH/START WRAP-UP
September 21, 2004
Week two was a dandy and the Docs managed to name some big time players for your
fantasy team to start. DeShaun Foster and Curtis Martin busted out great
fantasy football days as we suspected. If you left week 1 flashes Eddie
Kennison, Jerome Bettis, and David Terrell on the pine, you were thanking us on
Sunday. Join us for the bench / start wrap up as we take credit for our
good calls and own up to our mistakes.
Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
DeShaun Foster (Stephen Davis) – We saw the writing on the wall with this RB and we told
you about it. After calling the great game from Quentin Griffin, we weren’t going
to miss another great opportunity to have a fantasy back run against the KC defense.
Foster had a huge fantasy game. He rushed for 174 yards and a TD. The most
yards by a back in week 2. If you started Foster, you were well rewarded.
Chris Chambers – Chambers had a horrible week 1, but we told you to stick with this under
rated WR. The Dolphins looked like Westside Middle School against the Bengals
on Sunday night, but Chambers still managed to get your fantasy team decent yardage and that
all important TD.
Laveranues Coles – Coles disappointed many fantasy teams week 1, but we just knew that the
Giants D wasn’t that tough. And they weren’t … well they weren’t when the Skins
didn’t turn the ball over (which wasn’t very often on Sunday). Coles came through big
for teams and especially for teams in points per reception and in leagues that give bonuses
for reaching 100 yards. Coles racked up 9 receptions for 100 yards. Let’s hope
that whoever is the Skins QB this coming Sunday doesn’t forget to feed Coles the ball.
Curtis Martin – We got on the Martin Train before week 1 and we told you to stay on through
week 2. If you did, you were rewarded with a great game - 118 yards on the ground and
2 TDs. In point per reception leagues, Martin added a little extra bonus of 6
receptions for 25 yards.
Santana Moss – We had hoped that Moss would score this past week. He didn’t.
However, he still managed to provide a great yardage week of 97 yards.
Joey Harrington – We are telling everyone to cash in on Lions stock while they can because
the road ahead looks bumpy. However, this week was a great week for this young QB.
We would have liked to have seen more yardage, but the 3 TDs are a welcome sight anytime.
Andre Johnson – Johnson stunk it up week 1, but we urged you to give this sophomore a second
try. Johnson paid off big time in leagues that award bonuses for long plays with his
54 yards TD catch.
Lamar Gordon – Gordon makes the correct calls of the week only because we suggested starting
him in leagues that require a flex position or in deep leagues. We told you his weekly
score should compare favorably with some of the WR options that would be available in these
leagues. While the Phins looked bad and Gordon didn’t get that many yards on the ground,
he did manage to rack up 8 receptions for 44 yards. He is a great flex play in those
leagues that give bonuses for points per reception.
Bench:
Byron Leftwich – If you didn’t start Leftwich, you are pretty pleased with the result.
Leftwich only had one TD and 120 yards passing. A pretty ugly day by QB standards.
Ron Dayne – Dayne had a solid week 1, but we told you to temper you enthusiasm and put his
rotund behind on the pine week 2. If you abided our advice, you are glad you missed
out on his 9 carries for 12 yards. Yuck.
Eddie Kennison – Kennison had a stellar week 1 as the Chiefs leading receiver. We
expected a major drop in production from this WR and we got it – 1 catch for 20 yards.
A poor fantasy outing in any scoring system.
Jerome Bettis – The Bus was a popular pick up after his three TDs in Week 1. If you sat
this big boy down you thanked your lucky stars (and maybe us?), Bettis put up a big fantasy
goose egg week 2.
David Terrell – Terrell had the most yards after week 1 and he was a hot waiver wire
acquisition before week 2. We suggested that you leave this perennial under achiever
on the pine. Terrell showed some of his old form with a NEGATIVE game. 1
reception for -8 yards and a fumble. It is bad enough when a player doesn’t do much
for a fantasy team, but when a player sends your team backward … that is unacceptable.
Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Onterrio Smith – Smith did have 8 receptions that were nice in point per reception leagues,
but his total yardage was a little lacking to make out best picks of the week.
Tom Brady – Brady turned in a average day for a QB. His game would have been fantastic
if he wouldn’t have let the Cardinals D pick hi moff twice and cause him to fumble.
Those negative points always hurt the QBs.
Kevin Jones – Jones had an average day, but we would have like to have seen more from the
Lions RB against the Texans. Hopefully the Lions figure out how to run the ball one
of these weeks.
Marc Bulger – Bulger had some solid yardage and a nice TD pass, but his interception and the
fumble he game up for a Falcons TD bumped him down to our so-so calls list.
Washington Redskins Defense – The Redskins have a good D, but when your offense turns the ball
over as much as Washington’s O did, the defense doesn’t stand much of a chance. The D
fought hard and should have had a better game.
Bench:
Jimmy Smith – Smith didn’t do a whole lot with only 3 receptions, but he busted out just enough
yardage to bust our prediction (well bust our prediction slightly).
Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Muhsin Muhammad – We were really surprised that Muhammad didn’t have a better game, but only
26 yards and you are not a very good start.
Bench:
Javon Walker – For some reason the Packers decided that throwing the ball was the best way to
win the game. Well thanks a lot Favre & Co. You blew our Walker prediction and
you lost the game. Next time feed Ahman Green the ball and we will both be happier.
Terry Glenn – Apparently, the Cowboys cannot run the ball, so Glen racked up a nice day of 90
yards receiving.
