Wrap Up of FootballDocs Bench / Start

It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our advice--both good and bad.  In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 15
BENCH/START WRAP-UP

December 21, 2004

With week 15 in the books, lots of fantasy seasons have come to an end.   If you are reading this in preparation for your week 16 games, then the season has been kind to you.   We made some solid calls week 15 including: Clinton Portis, Rod Smith, Larry Johnson, the Houston Texans’ D, and the Washington Redskins’ D.   Hopefully, your team was able to benefit from these solid calls.   Join us for the weekly fantasy bench/start wrap up as we take credit for our good predictions and own up to our blunders of the week.

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Clinton Portis – After having a long stretch of disappointing his fantasy owners, Portis has started to get his act together.   He had 113 yards rushing and 20 yards receiving.   We wish that he wouldn’t have fumbled, but he still managed to have a solid fantasy performance in most scoring systems.   Hopefully, Portis can come through in the next couple of weeks with a TD, but we also hope that he can keep up his yardage production.

Rod Smith – Smith has been a solid fantasy WR most of the season.   While he hasn’t knocked anyone’s fantasy socks off this season, he has been a solid addition to many rosters.   This past week he hauled in 6 receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.   In most fantasy scoring systems, Smith’s day was solid, but his value in point per reception leagues was even greater.   We hope that most Smith owners were able to benefit from this solid game.

Jake Plummer – Plummer amassed 292 yards passing, a touchdown, and 29 yards rushing.   We would have liked to have seen an even better day, but at least he is warming up for a run down the stretch.   Plummer’s over 300 yards of total offense was a great fantasy day.

Curtis Martin – We called the Martin explosion and he delivered it.   134 yards rushing and the coveted 2 touchdown performance will make any fantasy owner smile.   We just hope you were on the giving end of Martin’s game and not the receiving end.

Larry Johnson – Larry had a tough match up with the Denver run D, but we advised you to give him the rock.   Johnson had a huge game with over 150 yards rushing and 2 TDs.   If you have Johnson on your roster, you had better milk him for all he is worth.

Todd Heap – Heap is back and the fantasy owners that are using him in the playoffs couldn’t be happier.   Heap had 58 yards and a touchdown.   If you saw the game, you saw a young QB who LOVES his TE.   Heap is quickly making the entire fantasy world remember why he was a highly coveted TE during fantasy drafts.

Michael Pittman – Pittman’s 141 yards of offense made for another solid performance.   We wanted to see the TD, but he was still great.   If you held onto Pittman during his suspension, good for you.

Drew Bennett – Bennett shouldn’t be going near ANYONE’s bench anytime soon. He has been a machine.   Week 15 Bennett had 160 yards receiving and 2 TDs.   If you don’t own Bennett, just hope that you don’t have to play against him.

Houston Texans – The Texans were not a very highly thought of defense coming into week 15, but we thought that they would be able to breakout.   They did breakout to the tune if 2 interceptions, 1 sack, 2 fumble recoveries, and a TD.   On top of these great fantasy stats, the Texans only allowed 5 points!   This is the type of fantasy performance that owners dream of.   We hope that you enjoyed it.

Washington Redskins Defense – The Redskin’s D actually dominated more than their fantasy score would suggest.   That is saying a lot considering the fact that they had a fantastic game.   They had 4 interceptions, 1 sack, and a touchdown.   It was a solid game for the Skins’ D.

Randy Moss – Moss should be a no brainer, but since he was coming off of injury we just wanted to alert you to the return of the real Moss.   An 82 yard bomb for a TD is a perfect example of an increasingly healthy Moss.

Bench:
William Green – Green had only 16 yards, so be very glad that you left him on the bench.

Amani Toomer – Toomer was another great bench call with only 34 yards receiving on two receptions.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Michael Clayton – Clayton had a so-so day with 4 receptions for moderate yardage.

Kyle Boller – The Ravens’ offense showed some signs of life and Boller looked like he might have some potential.   His yardage and Touchdown were nice, but his 2 interceptions helped to make Boller’s performance only a so-so fantasy effort.

Antowain Smith – We originally had Chris Brown here, but said to start Smith if Brown was unable to play (which was the case and posted on Friday).   Smith almost punched it into our great calls this week, but his 83 total yards of offense, 0 TDs, yet 0 fumbles made a so-so call.

Bench:
ANY Miami Dolphins QB – There we go picking on the poor Dolphins again.   The whole Dolphins’ organization stood up and said “we’re not going to take it, anymore.”   Feeley managed just enough yards to make our bench prediction only so-so.

Tom Brady – Brady’s 4 interceptions would have been enough to have made him a great bench call, but his 3 touchdown’s helped to salvage a so-so game for this bench call.

Jerry Rice – Rice stuck it to us with a touchdown, but his yardage was so low that he only proved us partially wrong (and partially correct).

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Reggie Williams – Williams only had 11 yards.   Ouch.   We missed this one.

Bench:
Tiki Barber – Tiki managed to find the endzone and gather enough yardage to make our bench call on him a bust.

Rudi Johnson – Johnson’s story is the same as Barber’s.
