FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 13
BENCH/START WRAP-UP
December 4, 2007
Welcome to our weekly look back at our Bench / Start calls. Each week
we hold ourselves accountable for our good and bad recommendations. It
is easy to make predictions, but it is tough to stand behind them. Let's
not beat around the bush. Week 13 was a pretty solid week all around for both bench and start calls. We hope
some of these calls helped you win a game or two this weekend. Without
further ado, let’s get to the weekly fantasy football Bench / Start Wrap-up.
Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Thomas Jones, RB, NYJ – Well, well, well, look who scored their FIRST TD of the season. That ‘s right Thomas Jones finally scored a TD. He was also able to tack on 100 yards of total offense in week 13. This was Jones’ best performance of the season and it was a great start call.
Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN – Coming into week 13 there was some question as to how much Peterson would play because he was coming off a knee injury. Well, we told you that we didn’t care how much he plays and that you needed to have him in there. We personally know owners who didn’t start Peterson because they were afraid he would be limited. They are kicking themselves now, but you aren’t because you followed this start advice. Right? Peterson rolled up 126 yards of total offense and 2 TDs.
Greg Jennings, WR, GB – At some point you have to think that Jennings can’t keep this up. Well, it looked like that was going to be last Thursday against the Cowboys. Finally, something turned things around … Brett Favre got hurt. That is correct! With Favre in the game, Jennings was doing nothing. Once Favre left the game, Jennings caught on fire and ended up with a solid game of 87 yards and a TD.
Jamal Lewis, RB, CLE – Lewis continues to baffle logic and deliver solid games. While he wasn’t much to speak of earlier in the season, Lewis has become surprisingly reliable. In week 13, he had 62 yards rushing, 3 receptions for 24 yards, and a TD. This was a good start call for those of you out there fighting to get in your playoffs.
Tory Holt, WR, STL – While you might have been concerned about Marc Bulger missing the game in week 13, you were urged to keep the faith in the old man Holt. Holt didn’t disappoint by catching 6 balls for 135 yards and a TD. Impressive.
Starting Denver RB – Technically, we don’t think Travis Henry started the game. However, you knew he was playing before the game started so you had to start him as the #1 guy. He was just that with the most carries (15 compared to 1 and 7) for 49 yards, 1 fumble and 2 TDs. This was a solid effort from a guy you haven’t seen much lo lately.
Bench:
Javon Walker, WR, DEN – We knew Walker was coming back, but we warned you to stay away until you could see how effective he could be. This was a wise move as Walker only had 1 catch for 7 yards.
Troy Williamson, WR, MIN – Williamson was a late scratch, so hopefully you didn’t try to start him.
Greg Lewis, WR, PHI – Lewis was thrown to 3 times, but he didn’t catch a ball in week 13. This was a huge drop off in production for Lewis. In week 12, Lewis had a huge game, but we warned that he was due for a down week. A fantasy 0 is pretty down and it is best left on your bench.
Tony Scheffler, TE, DEN – Only 1 catch for 17 yards is an effort best left on your bench in almost all scoring formats.
Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Owen Daniels, TE, HOU – Daniels had 3 receptions for 42 yards, so that isn’t too bad of a day for a TE. This lands Daniels in the so-so start calls of the week.
Donald Lee, TE, GB – Favre getting hurt probably put a damper in this prediction because good TEs have always been a friend to Favre. However, Lee still managed 3 receptions for 30 yards and that isn’t too bad considering he is a TE.
Bench:
Jabar Gaffney, WR, NE – Gaffney ended up “scoring a TD” against the Ravens on Monday night. However, you can ask Ravens fans if he really scored that TD or not. That 8 yard catch was his only catch of the night and that made Gaffney a decent bench call after he had nearly 100 yards and a TD in week 12.
Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Kevin Jones, RB, DET – The Lions are just collapsing as an entire organization. If you own a Lion and rely on him, you could be in deep trouble down the stretch. Jones only had 17 total yards.
Jason Hanson, K, DET – The Lions are just collapsing as an entire organization. If you own a Lion and rely on him, you could be in deep trouble down the stretch. Hanson only had 1 FG and 1 PAT.
Starting Miami RB – Chatman just isn’t all that healthy and his backups aren’t that good. As a result, almost all of the Dolphins’ RBs had a bad day.
Bench:
Roy Williams, WR, DET – Williams did have 85 yards and we thought he would only have 45 yards. However, he did managed to sustain an injury that will likely cost him the rest of the 2007 season.
Ron Dayne, RB, HOU – We thought Dayne would struggle against Tennessee, but he showed just how much this defense has fallen off due to injuries. The Titans face LT next week. We would feel pretty confident that LT is going to have a big game in week 14.
