Wrap-Up of FootballDocs Bench / Start

It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our advice--both good and bad. In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 12
BENCH/START WRAP-UP

November 27, 2007

Welcome to our weekly look back at our Bench / Start calls. Each week we hold ourselves accountable for our good and bad recommendations. It is easy to make predictions, but it is tough to stand behind them. Let's not beat around the bush. Week 12 was a pretty solid week for Start recommendations. (The Sit predictions were a little tougher) We hope some of these calls helped you win a game or two this weekend. Without further ado, let’s get to the weekly fantasy football Bench / Start Wrap-up.

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Kolby Smith, RB, KC – It was Smith’s first start and we told you that he should be in your starting lineup. Smith delivered big time with 152 total yards and 2 rushing TDs. This was a great game in any scoring system. It is too bad that he won’t play the Raiders every week.

Marion Barber III, RB, DAL – Barber had a huge day with 115 yards of total offense and a TD. This was only Barber’s second 100+ yard rushing game of the season. At this critical time of the year, he couldn’t have picked a more opportune time to heat up. Let’s hope he can keep this going.

Greg Jennings, WR, GB – In week 12, Jennings had 5 receptions for 60 yards and 2 TDs. Jennings has been an absolute stud this season. Thank goodness for this great play.

Donald Driver, WR, GB – In a point per reception league, Driver was off the charts with 10 receptions for 147 yards. We were very excited about the Packers passing attack and that looks like it was a great prediction.

Brett Favre, QB, GB – 381 yards, 0 INTs, and 3 TDs passes was a fantastic game from old #4. Favre has been so great this year in fantasy football and in reality as well.

Indianapolis Colts D – With only 13 points allowed, 250 total yards allowed, 2 Sacks, and 2 INTs, the Colts D had a very solid effort.

Peyton Manning, QB, IND – After 2 terrible games we too the opportunity to tell you to still hang in there with Manning. He delivered with only 1 INT and 3 TDs, plus 272 yards. If Peyton can continue to deliver like this the rest of the year, his owners might still have a chance at a league championship.

Matt Schaub, QB, HOU – We wish Shaub wouldn’t have thrown the 2 INTs, but he made up for those with 256 yards passing and 2 TD passes. This wasn’t a monster game, but it was certainly startable.

Bench:
Michael Jenkins, WR, ATL – 9 yards was a good bench call. After a decent week 11, Jenkins is firmly on your bench again.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Lawrence Tynes, K, NYG – Tynes had a decent day, but he could have been much more effective had Eli Manning not thrown 3 TDs … to the opposing team. Yikes. We have been off the Eli Manning bandwagon ever since last season and you have to wonder how things are going to work out for this king of the falling away pass.

Willie Parker, RB, PIT – Parker was a decent start despite the messy conditions. Obviously, no TDs were scored on Monday night, but Parker did have 1 reception for 8 yards and 81 yards rushing. That lands him with a so-so start call of the week.

Bench:
Marty Booker, WR, MIA – Booker only had 54 yards, but his receptions were decent that ended up making him a so-so bench call. He wouldn’t have killed you this week, but he wasn’t going to blow anyone away either.

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Donald Lee, TE, GB – We predicted a Green Bay pass-lapalooza and they delivered as Brett Favre broke all kinds of records and almost set an NFL record. However, Lee was left out of this festival with only 1 catch for 10 yards. We expected more from Lee.

Bench:
Rudi Johnson, RB, CIN – The Titans got carved up on Thanksgiving like a big juicy turkey. As a result both Kenny Watson AND Johnson scored TDs. Johnson was given plenty of rushes and a TD. He didn’t break 100 yards, but he did have a solid week.

Vernon Davis, TE, SF – The Cardinals had allowed only 1 TD to a TE all season before this past weekend’s game. Now they have allowed 2 TDs to TEs all season. Davis scored and busted up our bench call on Sunday.

Calvin Johnson, WR, DET – The Packers did shut down a Lions WR on Thanksgiving, but it wasn’t Johnson. Roy Williams was the WR that the Pack shut down. Johnson took some hard hits, but he had a solid day with 83 yards and a TD.

Reggie Williams, WR, JAX – Williams only caught 1 pass all day, but it was a 59 yard TD reception. That is an amazing way to break a bench call.

Roddy White, WR, ATL – White broke 100 yards on Thanksgiving. Most of his yardage came on a 48 yard TD reception. Several Turkey Day bench calls stuck it to us.
