Wrap Up of FootballDocs Bench / Start
It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our advice--both good and bad.  In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEK 11
BENCH/START WRAP-UP

November 22, 2005

Week 11 was a solid week for the Docs’ bench / start predictions.   We hope that we can keep this going to help fantasy teams make their playoffs.   Kurt Warner may have helped to save a few fantasy seasons last week.   However, leaving Stephen Davis on your bench might have been just as important in helping keep playoff hopes alive.   As always, we own up to our calls in the weekly bench / start wrap up.

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Kurt Warner – Hopefully you started Warner like we suggested because he was on fire.   Warner threw for 285 yards, 3 TDs, and no interceptions.   We repeat … no interceptions.   This was a heck of a game from this MVP turned journeyman.   It is hard to not root for Warner to have some success here on out.

Larry Fitzgerald – Fitzgerald continues to move his way towards a must start in most leagues and a superstar in point per reception leagues.   He compiled 113 yards of total offense with 9 receptions and a TD.   If you have Fitzgerald, you should probably lock him into your lineup and just sit back and enjoy.

Donald Driver – Driver was THE star on Monday night.   He hauled in 5 passes for 84 yards and 2 TDs.   One of those TD receptions was for 53 yards, so it was more than welcome in big play leagues.   Hopefully your wait for Driver’s performance was worth it.

Pittsburgh Steelers D – The Steelers didn’t win, but their D put out a pretty solid fantasy performance.   The Steelers only allowed 16 points, and they recorded 5 sacks, 1 INT, and 1 fumble recovery.

Brett Favre – Favre just made it into the good starts of the week.   He didn’t fumble and he only threw 2 INTs (one of those killed his team b/c it went back for a TD).   He threw for 227 yards and 2 TDs.   One of his TD strikes was from 53 yards out.   Those teams in big play leagues really benefited from that bomb.

Matt Hasselbeck – Hasselbeck had 233 yards passing, 7 yards rushing, and a TD.   More importantly, he had no turnovers.   This was a very respectable game out of the Seahawks QB.   It is very apparent that he will have a tough time having good fantasy games because Shaun Alexander is going to rush for a billion yards this season and a million TDs.

Domanick Davis (Jonathan Wells if Davis can’t go) – Davis played and he played well.   Davis turned in over 50 yards on the ground and over 50 yards in the air.   On top of this, Davis added a 3 yard TD run.   Davis owners will hope to see more of those short goal line runs that helped to make him a high pick in 2005.

Muhsin Muhammad – There was only 1 TD scored in this game, but it was by our start call.   Muhammad scored the TD of the game, and he hauled in 6 receptions for 49 yards.   Sunday was a solid game from Muhammad.

Heath Evans (If Corey Dillon doesn’t play) – 95 yards and two receptions.   Since Evans was only 5 yards away from a 100 yard effort and he did have two receptions and no fumbles, we are going to go ahead and give Evans a good start moniker.   Dillon didn’t play and Patrick Pass got a good portion of the carries, but Evans was the leading rusher for the Patriots.   If Evans ever gets the large majority of carries for the Patriots, Evans will be a top rusher.

Joe Horn – Horn didn’t score but he did have a very good game in leagues that reward points for receptions.   Horn hauled in 6 receptions for 80 yards.   While Horn’s game wasn’t quiet where we wanted it to be, we are going to let him slip into the good start calls only because of his large number of receptions.

Bench:
Stephen Davis – We told you that Davis had been a TD machine and that he wouldn’t find the end zone this week.   CHECK.   Davis had no TDs and only 6 yards rushing.   If you started Davis instead of Barry Sanders last week, it only made about a 0.6 point difference.

Joey Harrington – Harrington looked like an all-star week 10, but we told you to just cool your heels and leave Mr. Harrington on the pine week 11.   We hope that you followed our advice.   Harrington had 169 yards passing, no TDs, and a fumble.   This was a performance best left on your bench.

Kevan Barlow – Barlow did rush the ball the most times for his team on Sunday and Frank Gore was inactive.   Barlow only managed 21 yards on the ground.   Maurice Hicks had 83 yards on 1 less carry than Barlow and Hicks also had a TD.   Barlow was a good bench call week 11.

J.P. Losman – Losman was a good bench call week 11.   After a solid effort week 10, we told you to put Losman on your bench this past weekend.   If you did, you made the right move.   Losman had two turnovers that cancelled out his only TD of the game.   Losman’s 168 yards passing didn’t leave us feeling very impressed either.

Kyle Boller – Boller had 163 yards passing, 1 TD pass, and 1 INT, so we hope that you followed our advice and left this struggling QB on the pine.

Brandon Jones – Jones only had 1 catch for 21 yards.   That is a nice average, but it doesn’t really help out your fantasy squad.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Seattle Seahawks D – We can’t believe that the Seahawks D couldn’t muster a better game this past weekend.   The only allowed 2 TDs the whole game (both in the 4th quarter), but they did allow a plethora of field goals.   Joe Nedney was on fire with 4 field goals on Sunday.   Seattle did manage 4 sacks and a fumble recovery, but this start call was only so-so.

Andre Johnson – 6 receptions for 55 yards of total offense isn’t too bad in point per reception leagues, but Johnson also fumbled.   As a result, Johnson was only a so-so start week 11.   We are surprised that the Texans couldn’t get Johnson a few more balls.

Bench:
Mike Alstott – Alstott went nuts week 10, and we told you to avoid the hype and leave him on your pine week 11.   Alstott is one of the unique examples of a player scoring a TD and still not being a good start.   Alstott had 10 total yards of offense to go along with his TD, so he was only a so-so start at best.

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Sam Gado – 37 total yards is not what we expected.   Gado was a big disappointment week 11.   It would have helped if the Packers would have tried to run the ball more than 14 times, but we aren’t the coach.

Bench:
Kevin Jones – Jones only had 29 yards rushing, but he did have 38 yards receiving and a TD run.   A TD will blow up a bench prediction in a heartbeat.   Jones would have been a decent start week 11.

Michael Vick – The Falcons lost, but that doesn’t really save our prediction.   Vick had a fantastic fantasy game.   Over 300 yards in the air, he had another 17 on the ground, no interceptions, and only 1 fumble to count against his 2 TD passes.   Vick had a great game, and we just didn’t think that he could do it.
