NFL Week 9: "Ask the Docs" Replies

Friday, November 1, 2013

You've got questions and we're here to dish out answers. Lot of great questions this week ranging from trade offers to starting decisions to wavier advice. We decided to go the Social Media route this year, so if you dropped us a question on our Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ pages, odds are good you got an answer! For the rest of you, we've compiled the questions and our responses to try to help the masses as well. Many of our replies will have components that are directly applicable to components on your team, so without further ado, let's get to it:

I have both Jordan Reed and Jordan Cameron. They seem to be about the same to me statistically. Who should I play for week 9? I'm in standard league.
- Hank on Facebook

Docs: Hank, you have two good options this week and sometimes you can drive yourself mad trying to split hairs. However, if this thing were to play out 100 times, we feel Cameron would outperform Reed this week with a slight majority. We'd go with Cameron.

Who should I start this week: Chris Johnson @ STL or Pierre Thomas @ NYJ?
- Cassie on Twitter

Docs: Cassie, we give the slight edge to Thomas. Greene is supposed to see an increased workload in TEN, and we trust Thomas a little more.

Fantasy twofer for you: Rivers or R. Wilson at QB and Stacy or Woodhead for FLEX. GO!
- Zachary on Twitter

Docs: Banged up or not, we like Stacy over Woodhead. We go w/ Wilson over Rivers. He's been steady w/ a good match-up. That's a BINGO!

Who should i sit? Garcon, Douglas, Hilton, Ridley or Pierre Thomas?
- John on Twitter

Docs: John, we sit Garcon out of that crew. The Bolts have physical corners and Garcon is a little banged up.

Trade Dalton for Jimmy Graham. I have Rivers as my other QB Julius Thomas at TE. TE Can also play flex.
- Sam on Twitter

Docs: Sam, if you can wrestle Graham away for Dalton, do it! Graham is way too explosive and your flex position gives you options with Thomas.

I cannot make a decision on who to start in my standard league at all this week. I need 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, and 1 FLEX out of: A.J. Green, Brandon Marshall, Terrance Williams, Keenan Allen, Steve Johnson, Marshawn Lynch, Leveon Bell, Darren McFadden, Jordan Cameron, or Jordan Reed. I really don't wanna leave points on the bench so please help me!
- Daniel on Facebook

Docs: Daniel, you can check out our weekly rankings to fill just about all those slots except for your FLEX - that's not quite as obvious, but you can infer it from our list. So with that in mind, you see we would go with Green (already played, but our list was posted prior to kickoff) & Marshall at WR; Lynch & Bell at RB; and Cameron at TE. As for FLEX, you can see we have Williams ranked pretty high relative to the other players respective to their positions, so we would go with him (Granted we have Reed pretty high too for TE, but in general, a WR ceiling is higher than a TE for most fantasy scoring systems). Don't beat yourself up too much for leaving points on the bench. That's almost inevitable to some degree. The key to fantasy is stacking the odds in your favor. This means you don't make 100% of the right decisions every week, but you put your team in a position of higher probability of getting more correct decisions over incorrect ones. It's a reality, and what makes fantasy fun, but we understand it also opens the door for a little frustration too. And every now and then you reach deep and pluck a player off waivers and insert them into your line-up and they go off for a very big day - it's those days in particular that make it very fun for you and not so fun for your opponent! Hope this helps and good luck this week.

Should I trade Gio Bernard and Antonio Brown for Stevan Ridley? I do need a good RB.
- Nathan on Twitter

Docs: Nathan, yes, Ridley is a more stable option than Bernard fantasy wise, and Brown is just window dressing to help get the deal done.

Vereen, Marvin Jones or Stevie Johnson rest of season?
- Mark on Twitter

Docs: Mark, Marvin Jones has the best upside out of that crew & a bright future. He also has flashed the ability to drop a mega fantasy nuke.

Which 2 do I start Alfred Morris, Ridley, or D Woodhead?
- Joe on Twitter

Docs: Joe, we go with Ridley and Woodhead. Ridley is a changed man, and Woodhead more versatile than Morris, who has a tough match-up.

What are my top three backs Morris/Rice/Fred Jackson/Murray?
- Rob on Twitter

Docs: Rob, for week 9, we go with Rice, Jackson, & Murray. Splitting hairs here, but we think the 1-D Morris will struggle against SD.

That's a wrap this week. Great interacting with everyone and good luck to everyone's teams this week. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out our FootballDocs' Social Media pages and send us your fantasy football question: Google+, Facebook, and Twitter.
