NFL Week 6: "Ask the Docs" Replies

Friday, October 11, 2013

You've got questions and we're here to dish out answers. Lot of great questions this week ranging from trade offers to starting decisions to wavier advice. We decided to go the Social Media route this year, so if you dropped us a question on our Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ pages, odds are good you got an answer! For the rest of you, we've compiled the questions and our responses to try to help the masses as well. Many of our replies will have components that are directly applicable to components on your team, so without further ado, let's get to it:

Who should I start. Non ppr TY Hilton or James Jones. Also Brady, Flacco, or Foles. Finally, in flex non ppr DeAngelo Williams. Garret Graham or Keenan Allen . Thank you.
- John, Delaware

Docs: James Jones has been very productive, so you have to stick with him. Brady is your QB this week. Last week Brady had his consecutive games with a TD streak broken, but we are certain that he will be back to his TD ways. There is a good chance that Brady will finally have Rob Gronkowski, and that is a very good thing. Your last question is for a flex in a non-ppr with DeAngelo Williams, Garrett Graham, or Keenan Allen. You should go with DeAngelo Williams in a non-ppr. He has a great matchup this week and the receptions that Graham or Allen might get won't count against Williams.

I have three situations here... I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to starting certain guys so I'm trying this.
1. Should I start Cam Newton or Big Ben? Cam is my current starter but he hasn't been producing, but neither has Ben.
2. Bilal Powell or Le'Veon Bell?
I just picked up Powell and I know that the Pittsburgh run defense is poor, but I feel like coming of the injury Bell will get a good amount of touches near the end zone like in week 4 when he had 2 TDs.
3. Steve Smith or Denarius Thomas?
Steve is the go to for Cam but like I said Cam hasn't been producing, and it seems lately as the raiders only good receiver that Thomas has been thrown too a lot.
Any advice would be very helpful here, I'm 3-1-1 and trying to stretch my win streak to 4.

- Jason, PA

Docs: Cam Newton is the best option at QB. Newton has been disappointing, but he is a better option than Roethlisberger. It would be good to see more of Le'Veon Bell before you start trusting him blindly, but Bell is a better than Powell this week. Bell had a great 1st week as an NFL RB, so it will be fun to see if he can continue. Demaryius Thomas is a guy you have to stick with. Peyton is too hot right now and Thomas is always a threat for a big TD.

Hi i have a couple of positions that i cant decide on. For RB i can put in either Pierre Thomas or Andre Ellington. I need 2 out of these 5 WR. Keenan Allen, Jerome Simpson, Terrence Williams, Michael Floyd, or Kenbrell Thompkins. Thanks
- Brett

Docs: Ellington has a great matchup as your RB. Keenan Allen and Terrence Williams at WR.

Have used your draft adviser for 5 years now. Love your site. In a PPR league. Danny Woodhead or MJD? Keep waiting for MJD to break out but Jax is just so bad. Also, Philip Rivers or RG3?
- Terrence

Docs: Both MJD and Woodhead should be solid this week. However, MJD gets the nod here. The Broncos defense has allowed a lot of points to opposing offenses. MJD should steal a TD for you this week. RGIII over Rivers too.

Offered Steven Jackson and Antonio Gates for Darren McFadden. My other RBs are Doug Martin and Le'Veon Bell and my TE is Jared Cook. What are your thoughts?
- Randy

Docs: We would rather have Jackson and Gates. McFadden just can't be trusted. He gets injured far too often. Jackson isn't panning out for the Falcons yet, but he should be back soon and he should be able to insert himself as a key piece of their offense now that they have lost Julio Jones. Despite his hot start, Cook isn't doing you any favors lately. Martin and Bell have a lot of production left ahead of them in 2013.

Huge post here, but I really need the help!

I'm in a 12-team, .2 points per reception league with 16-man rosters.

Everyone in this league jumps on free agents in a hurry, and I am interested in picking up WR Harry Douglas, now that Julio Jones is likely done for the season. (I don't have Jones on my roster.) Is he worth picking up?

If he is, then the problem is hat I don't know who to drop to pick him up.

We have a run-and-shoot option, in which we can start 1 RB and up to 4 WR's/TE's (and an additional RB/WR/TE flex player), or running the conventional offense with 2 RB's and 3 WR's/TE's (and an additional RB/WR/TE flex player.)

Here is my roster:
QBs - Stafford and Pryor
RBs - McCoy, Chris Johnson, Woodhead, B Tate, Vereen
WRs - Colston, Garcon, V Jackson, K Allen, A Pettis
TEs - G Graham, Clay
K - Gould
Def - Colts

My first question is: Should I pick up Harry Douglas and drop Vereen, since he won't be back for weeks, or should I hold onto him? I don't know who else to drop if you recommend I should keep Vereen. Maybe Ben Tate?
And for this coming week, who should I start at WR? I'm thinking my lineup should be this:
Stafford
McCoy
Woodhead
Colston
Garcon
V Jackson
G Graham
Gould
Colts D

Should I substitute any of those WRs with Allen or Pettis?
Again, thanks for your help!

- Steve

Docs: Yes. Get Douglas. Would probably drop Pettis to get Douglas. Your roster looks set for Week 6.

Tom Brady or Phillip Rivers this week?
- Reggie

Docs: Rivers (I know. Hard to believe it has come to this, but Brady needs to get his weapons back and working before you can trust him very much.)

I have been offered Stafford, Mcgahee, Demaryius Thomas, & Kenbrell Tompkins for Ray Rice, Eric Decker, & AJ Green. Should I do it? My other RB's would be Miller, Powell, Mendenhall, & Tate.
- Dave

Docs: No deal. You can't trust McGahee. Decker and Green are going to be great all year and Rice is only going to get better.

Should I play or Mendenhall or Ronnie Hillman as a flex this week?
- Keown

Docs: The Broncos backfield is too inconsistent at best, and it is all Moreno at worst. Start Mendenhall this week.

That's a wrap this week. Great interacting with everyone and good luck to everyone's teams this week. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out our FootballDocs' Social Media pages and send us your fantasy football question: Google+, Facebook, and Twitter.
