NFL Week 13: "Ask the Docs" Replies
Friday, November 29, 2013
You've got questions and we're here to dish out answers. Lot of great questions this week ranging from trade offers to starting decisions to wavier advice.
We decided to go the Social Media route this year, so if you dropped us a question on our Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ pages, odds are good you got an answer! For the rest of you, we've compiled the questions
and our responses to try to help the masses as well. Many of our replies will have components that are directly applicable to components on your team, so without further ado, let's get to it:
Need TE help here: Should I start Tony Gonzalez or Rob Housler this weekend?
- Michael on Facebook
Michael, neither Gonzalez nor Housler have a good match-up at TE this week. Furthermore, both have had their ups and downs this year, but in crunch time, we would go with and trust the 13 time Pro-Bowler in Gonzalez over Housler. Even with the toe injury to Gonzalez. He's a future Hall of Fame TE that knows how to play hurt.
Guys, pick one for the FLEX position... Moreno, Decker, Fleener or Bowe.
- Vince on Facebook
Vince, we would go with Moreno. The injuries are piling up on the KC defense, and Moreno should be fed a steady diet of carries. His fantasy basement isn't as low as the other options, and we also feel his fantasy ceiling is at least as equally as high this week. In short, we feel he is the safest option with the potential to have a nice game.
Who is the better start week 13, Donald Brown or Chris Ivory?
- Chris on Twitter
Chris, slight lean to Brown. Both Ivory and Brown have good match-ups. DB should rebound from a bad week 12. Plus, you never know when the Jets O implodes with turnovers keeping the ball out of Ivory's hands.
Howdy! Starting N. Burleson (DET) this week, stymied on whether to to go with V. Jackson (TB) or K. Allen (SD) in the other WR slot. My gut says Keenan. Thoughts?
- Joshua on Facebook
Joshua, the Burleson egg was painful on Thursday. Turns out the Lions limited his snap count after playing nearly all snaps last week to make sure he would be there for the playoffs. In light of that blindside and recognizing you need to play catch-up, we would go with Jackson. Jackson has a higher fantasy ceiling than Allen and can deliver a "catch-up" type game. Both Jackson and Allen have tough match-ups for opposing WRs this week, but when you need a Hail Mary, we would lean to Jackson to deliver over Allen.
Should I start Delainie Walker or Jordan Reed?
- Nathan on Twitter
Nathan, Walker is healthy and has new life with the switch at QB. We like Walker here.
Is is worth the risk first week of the playoffs to start Matt Flynn vs Detroit over Andrew luck vs Tennessee??? I missed out on getting Mccown and Fitzpatrick off of waivers.
- Bruce on Facebook
Bruce, we are too late to comment on this one, but hopefully our weekly fantasy QB rankings for Week 13 steered you the right way and you were able to get Luck in there for the start (Luck #7; Flynn # 12). Flynn had a good set of circumstances to deliver, and we liked him as a sleeper this week with upside for a big game to help salvage his career and build on positive momentum from last week, but the Lions were hungry and the Packers (specifically Flynn) imploded.
Happy Thanksgiving! Similar question as last time, need to start 2 QB, have Foles, Brady and Wilson - thoughts?
- John on Twitter
John, great situation to be in. We like Foles and Brady as we think they have higher fantasy ceilings than Wilson this week.
QB: RG3 or Josh McCown this week? WR: Pick 1 out of Burleson, Boykin, or Crabtree... THANKS!
- Matt on Facebook
Matt, we would go with RGIII. There has been a lot of attention given to his bad play last week, and we feel RGIII will respond with a solid effort. While the Giants' defense is playing much improved, they are still not as tough as facing the Niners. As for McCown, he is coming off a good game, but he isn't in the same tier of QB as RGIII to trust him over RGIII this week. Or you can think of it this way, if you lose starting McCown over RGIII, that is going to be a much tougher pill to swallow than if you lose starting RGIII over McCown. We feel if this thing were to play out 100 times, more times than not, RGIII would outproduce McCown this week. As for WR/TE, they are all goose eggs this week in a very strange game for Burleson (Detroit decided to limited his snaps to keep him fresh for the playoffs) and Boykin (Matt Flynn imploded). Crabtree is out with a torn bicep, so in a very strange set of circumstances, it turns out it didn't matter who you started. Here's hoping RGIII and the rest of your starters can pick up the slack for your team, and you can edge out the "W" this week.
Considering dropping D.Hopkins and/or T.Williams. Should I do it/who do I target on waivers (WR or RB)? PPR league.
- Archit on Twitter
Archit, both of those players have gone stale, as WRs, particularly rookie WRs, can be streaky. For PPR, Edelman is a great target.
Need some advice, do I start Matt Ryan(Atl-QB), Case Keenum(Hou-QB) or Tavon Austin (StL-WR) 4 my flex spot?
- Matt on Twitter
Matt, we would go with Ryan. Most stable of the 3 options and will be active in the entire game.
That's a wrap this week. Great interacting with everyone and good luck to everyone's teams this week. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out our FootballDocs' Social Media pages and send us your fantasy football question:
