NFL Week 7: "Ask the Docs" Replies

Friday, October 19, 2012

Tons of teams are on bye, injuries are in full swing, and you need to get a win for your fantasy team. Yup, things are getting serious. There were so many great questions coming in this week. There were lots great trade questions, and Matthew Stafford's name kept popping up. We couldn't get to them all, but we hope you still can gleam some good information from the ones we did answer. Join us for the Week 7 Ask the Docs mailbag.

"I have Peyton Manning on my bench. Is it a good idea to trade away Stafford and Andre Johnson for Ray Rice and Michael Vick?"
-- Brennen, Bronson, Michigan

Docs: We would do that deal assuming you have other WR options. You are getting one of the very best, most reliable RBs in the game.

"Should I trade Steven Jackson and Eric Decker for Aaron Hernandez and Andrew Hawkins?"
-- Scott , Louisa, Va

Docs: We would rather have Steven Jackson and Eric Decker. You can probably give up less to get a serviceable TE if that is what you need to add.

"Week 7 should I start matt Stafford @ Chicago. Or start Ryan Fitzpatrick @ Tenn. I think Stafford is due to break out but Fitzpatrick has the matchup thanks for your help."
-- Keith, Brick, NJ

Docs: Fitzpatrick is the play this week. Stafford should be fine this week, but Fitzpatrick has been playing better and has a better matchup.

"Since I have Eli Manning riding my bench every week in favor of Aaron Rodgers, and I am in need of running back help, should I try and trade Eli and Alex Green for Phillip Rivers and Chris Johnson?"
-- Bob, Bartlett, IL

Docs: Assuming you can only start 1 QB, you should try to get more for Eli Manning and ask for less of a QB in return. Chris Johnson is OK, but we want someone more trustworthy. Johnson has been better in 2 of his last 3 games, but he still seems very capable of dropping a 2 point fantasy game on you. If you just can't get anyone else, you could do the deal, but make sure you look hard for another option.

"I have Brandon Marshall, Victor Cruz, Jordy Nelson, Vincent Jackson and Larry Fitzgerald. Which three should I start?"
-- Jimmy, Smithville, Texas

Docs: You either have a shallow league, or you are just that good. You have a loaded WR group. Cruz, Marshall, and Fitzgerald are your starters this week.

"I'm really looking to pick it up this week, so wanted to know what you think I should do with the following Roster and the guys I'm thinking of adding...if I should switch some players around...who should I drop?

STARTING:
Flacco
Jones-Drew
Rashard Mendenhall
Brandon Gibson
Welker
Owen Daniels
Ahmad Bradshaw
Cardinals
Akers

BENCH:
Trent Richardson
Romo
Brent Celek
Miles Austin
Vick Ballard
DeAngelo Williams
Jennings
Amendola (IR)

AVAILABLE:
Sidney Rice
Dwayne Bowe
Hixon
Santana Moss

Thanks SO Much"
-- Jenna, Irvine, CA

Docs: FIRST! Stop reading this right now and go get Dwayne Bowe and drop Danny Amendola.
OK, now you are back, so we can continue.
Start:
Tony Romo
Maurice Jones-Drew
Ahmad Bradshaw
Wes Welker
Miles Auston
Owen Daniels
Trent Richardson (make sure he is going to play. It looks like he will at this time.)
Cardinals
Akers
Other than Dwayne Bowe, the waiver options aren't anything to get overly excited about. Sidney Rice is getting more interesting, but his offense is really inconstant when it comes to passing the ball. Good luck this weekend!

Thanks to all for the great questions! That's a wrap for this week. We tried to address some of the more common questions with more detailed answers to try to not only help the specific person asking the question, but the masses as well. Enjoy watching football this week and good luck to your fantasy teams!
