NFL Week 16: "Ask the Docs" Replies
Friday, December 23, 2011
Week 16 is the last game for most leagues. That means the lucky few still playing have a lot on the line and a lot of pressure. You sent in some great questions this week, so it was tough to pick these emails. We would love to answer them all. Good luck this weekend and Happy Holidays to you. Without any additional delay, her is the Week 16 "Ask the Docs" mailbag.
"Hey Docs, thanks for providing such a resourceful site! I am in the championship
In a points per reception/rush league. I can start three receivers, and another running back or receiver in a flex position. I have Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas, Lance Moore, Laurent Robinson, and Mike Tolbert. Do I start all four receivers and bench Tolbert? Or do I start three receivers and Tolbert in the flex and if so, which receiver do I bench? Thanks for your help."

Docs:
We usually like RBs in flex positions, but Ryan Mathews has been playing well and your WRs have also been playing well. That combination of events makes Tolbert the best candidate for the bench this week out of your WR/RBs.
"I am in the championship this week in 14 deep fantasy football league. Of these running back which one would you start
-Thomas Jones
-Steven Ridley
-Chris Ivory
-Ricky Williams
-Maurice Morris
-Sammy Morris
Also should I start Malcom Floyd or Deion Branch."

Docs:
Malcom Floyd is the easy choice over Deion Branch. Now, let's get to your tougher question about the RBs. This is a very tough call, but Ricky Williams looks like the best shot. He only needs 64 more yards to reach 10,000 career yards. The team won't deny him that assuming that the team gets the Browns under control. We think that is exactly what will happen. None of these RBs are very sexy, but deep leagues required deep moves. Good luck this weekend.
"So I made it to the championship game, but am having trouble with my RB lineup. I can start three of the five following RB's: Ryan Mathews, Roy Helu, Stephen Jackson, Marshawn Lynch, and Rashard Mendenhall.
I'm set on starting Mathews and Mendenhall, but should I start Helu or Lynch?? Lynch has been an absolute stud, but can he really crack the SF run defense? I am in a 0.1 Pt/Yd league (rushing and receiving) and 6 Pt/TD."

Docs:
Mathews, Mendenhall, and Lynch are your backs this week. Helu should have a good week, and Lynch will struggle against SF, but Lynch has been too good to bench against anyone.
"I was wondering who I should start this week at TE and RB. At TE I have Greg Olsen and Scott Chandler and at RB I have MJD, Peyton Hillis, Joseph Addai, Jackie Battle, and Beanie Wells. I figure I might throw Scott Chandler in if he is playing but the guy I'm playing this week has Cam Newton so if throws to Olsen our TD will be a wash (I also have Steve Smith). When it comes to RB I'm going to start MJD and Beanie Wells but I'm not sure what to about the other ones. I have a spot on my roster where I can start either a TE, WR or RB so I figured I would go with a RB but if you have any suggestions it would be appreciated."

Docs:
Start Olsen at TE. Start Peyton Hillis. However, the Hillis recommendation is not a strong one. He has been disappointing and he has a tough matchup in Week 16.
"I recently dropped Dallas Clack and picked up Anthony Fasano to fill that gap on my bench. So my question is, should I start Greg Olsen or Fasano for my championship matchup?"

Doug, Linwood, NJ
Docs:
Fasano is a great start if he plays. Keep an eye on this, but the Dolphins have a great matchup against the Patriots in Week 16.
