Updated: September 6, 2008
(final update for 2008)

Free Software for your fantasy football draft

Fantasy tight end rankings and TE projections were obtained using the Docs' unique mathematical model and drafting algorithm.  The TE player rankings are based on the fantasy points scoring system listed below; however, a custom set of fantasy tight end rankings for your particular league setup and scoring system can be obtained by using our Fantasy Football Draft Software, which also expands our fantasy football tight end rankings to include the top 450+ players overall.  All projections and TE player rankings will be updated weekly to account for player injuries and depth chart adjustments ( Fantasy Tight End Rankings FAQ ).

Fantasy Tight End Rankings FAQ
Through the years, a load of folks have asked us questions on our model and method for generating the FootballDocs player projections.  In an effort to reduce some of the email volume, here are some quick facts:

What do you mean by "model"?
There exists a unique, mathematical expression that would accurately predict 100% correctly every player's statistics this year.  Naturally, this expression would be composed of thousands of variables and conditional logic statements, but it does exist. Our goal is to take an engineering approach to producing a model that gets as close to that correct solution consistently every year with minimal variance.

What variables are in the Docs' model for generating player projections?
Through a careful balance of analysis and years of experience generating fantasy football rankings, statistical trends are exposed that increase the probability of a correct outcome. Examples include but are not limited to the effect of a wide receivers' production on himself and teammates when switching teams, reversible and irreversible effects on player performance relative to specific injury history, and maximum production relative to age and experience.

Is your model solely based on statistics?
No.  Although statistics and numerical analysis are powerful tools which can differentiate statistically significant factors that can affect player performance, the results must be balanced with football know-how and experience.   That is where countless hours of the NFL network, ESPN, sports talk radio, and even our own past experience in football provide perspective to our analysis. (If you can believe it, one of us actually received All-State Football Honors way back in the ol’ high school days).

What happens after the model generates its projections?
Extensive quality control checks are made after the model completes its 2008 player projections.   Every projection for every player is carefully reviewed and critically discussed by the Docs on both a player by player and cumulative team by team basis. Naturally this is a very time consuming process; however, we feel the end result produces an extremely comprehensive evaluation of player performance for the upcoming 2008 season.

Do you actually have advanced degrees in engineering up to the Ph.D. level?
Yes.  After all, FootballDocs is "Where the Geeks meet the Gridiron."   Thanks to all for your support and interest.  Enjoy the season, and above all else, have fun!
