Wrap-Up of Fantasy Football Start Sit

It's Tuesday, and that means it is time to face the music and/or toot our horn as we do a wrap-up on our fantasy football start sit advice -- both good and bad. In fact, every wrap-up is kept and posted below as a permanent public record of what we called and how good or bad the calls were.  Why?

Three reasons:

1.  Accountability.
2.  Confidence in our analysis and recommendations.
3.  Because the Docs take winning every bit as seriously as you do.

Thank you for visiting and welcome to FootballDocs Fantasy Football--"Where the geeks meet the gridiron."

WRAP UP OF FANTASY FOOTBALL
START SIT WEEK 2

September 16, 2008

Nostradamus (a.k.a. psychic)
Start:
Eli Manning, QB, NYG – Manning looked like an all-pro on Sunday. In fact, he was clearly the better Manning to have in week 2. With 260 yards, 3 TDs, and no turnovers, Manning was on fire. We doubt you will get too many of these games the rest of the season, but it never hurts to add to a QB's confidence. Perhaps Eli Manning has turned the corner. We think it had a lot more to do with the Rams. Manning was a great start call in week 2.

Kurt Warner, QB, ARZ – If you owned Warner, we told you to start him. Warner didn’t disappoint. He had 361 yards passing, no turnovers, and 3 TDs. One of those TDs was a 79 yard strike for those of you in big play leagues. No matter what scoring format you use, Warner was a big difference maker in week 2. Warner should continue to shine as long as he can stay upright.

San Francisco 49ers Defense – We thought that the Seahawks looked more like a bunch of pigeons than a fierce bird of prey. Apparently, the 49ers had a nice recipe for pigeon stew. The 49ers defense forced 2 INTs, 1 fumble, 2 sacks, and they returned one of those INTs for a TD. This was a great performance by a mediocre defense. If you were in a bind, the 49ers were able to bail you out.

Chris Johnson, RB, TEN – Johnson continues to produce with his 20+ touches again. In many leagues, Johnson wasn’t even drafted, but he is now starting to look like an every week starter. The offense ran pretty well under Kerry Collins, so look for Johnson to remain a huge part of what the Titans will try to do this season.

Muhsin Muhammad, WR, CAR – We told you that Muhammad wouldn’t be spectacular, but he would be reliable. He delivered with a very solid performance in point per reception leagues. Things might head south for Muhammad when Steve Smith returns, but they could also get better as the whole Panther offense starts to gel. In point per reception leagues, Muhammad is still someone you need to hang onto until the situation settles in Carolina.

Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB – Another QB recommended and another 300+ yard passing performance with 3 TDs. Rodgers did have a fumble, but Rodgers’ 25 yards rushing covered up that blemish in most leagues. Rodgers looked very good against the Lions. Don’t get to used to games like this, but Rodgers will get to play the Lions again. Right now Rodgers is starting in a great direction and he could easily become one of the great fantasy stories of 2008.

Donald Driver, WR, GB – In point per reception leagues, Diver is becoming a fierce force! 7 receptions for 52 yards and a TD made Driver a great start in week 2. Driver could continue to produce as Rodgers’ possession guy, so keep Driver in there if you liked what you saw week 2. However, you need to remember that these were the Lions.

Jason Campbell, QB, WAS – Campbell was terrible in week 1, but we told you he would bounce back in week 2. He did just that with well over 300 yards passing and a nice long TD pass. Those of you in big play bonus leagues loved the 67 yard strike to Santana Moss. Campbell is not an every week start, so you have to play the matchups when you can.

David Patten, WR, NO – Patten didn’t get a TD, but he looks like he will be a solid option with Colston out. With 5 receptions for 55 yards it was a solid day from Patten in point per reception leagues.

Bench:
Hank Baskett, WR, PHI – Basket had 102 yards and a TD in week 1, but we told you to keep him out of your lineup. Baskett fulfilled our bench prediction with only 2 catches for 10 yards. That is a pretty sharp drop off and a great bench call.

Michael Jenkins, WR, ATL – Jenkins had 62 yards and a TD in week 1, but he was another WR that we told you to hold off on putting in your lineup. Jenkins was shutout on Sunday against the Bucs. This was a great bench call.

Farmer's Almanac (a.k.a. not so bad/not so good)
Start:
Edgerrin James, RB, ARI – James had 1 reception and 55 yards rushing. He turned into a so-so start call, but it was very close to being a complete bust. Hightower continues to be a factor in Arizona.

Bench:
Jamal Lewis, RB, CLE – Lewis had a similar day to James and he turned into a so-so bench call. He showed up, but you weren’t blown away by him.

Weather Forecast (a.k.a. oops better luck next time)
Start:
Larry Johnson, RB, KC – If Johnson can’t do it against the Raiders, it makes us very leery of his chances for doing it against anyone.

Bench:
Chris Perry, RB, CIN – Perry only had 56 total yards, but he had 2 receptions and the almighty TD! That will kill your bench call quicker than you can say, “The Bengals actually scored a TD!” Perry is running hard, so don’t give up on him just yet.

Not Applicable Due to Cancelled Game
This was a funny week as the Houston/Baltimore game was turned into a bye week thanks to the hurricane. We had recommended Ray Rice (start), Ahman Green (bench), and Mark Clayton (bench), but that was prior to the game deciding to be cancelled.
