Truism of fantasy football:
every year there are players that will not be drafted but will emerge off the fantasy football waiver wire to be solid
additions for a fantasy football team, sometimes exploding to stud status. Good work
on the waiver wire involves knowing who is low on the radar just
before their stock goes through the roof. But who has time for that?
That answer is easy... the Docs. These are the geeks that live,
breathe, and talk fantasy football 365 days a year. So just sit back,
relax, and let the Docs do the work for you. Come check out FootballDocs
Fantasy Football Pickup Drop Advice every Monday as the Docs boil it down for you nice and
simple: who to watch, who to ignore, and most importantly... who
to grab! Since each team's needs are unique, the Docs will suggest
players to pick up based on the following significant positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, K, and D. Word of caution: While a quick trigger on
the fantasy football waiver wire can make a bad team good, it can also make a good team bad.
Before just adding the players listed below to your roster, here are a few
guidelines to help ensure that the former happens rather than the latter.
1. Do not just randomly pick-up a player or drop a player solely based
on the information given below - use some discretion - as the quality of
the player varies from league to league due to the size and scoring system
of each league. In addition, team needs vary from fantasy team to fantasy
team, so some discretion can go a long way. The list posted below is
to bring some players to your attention and give you a comment or two regarding
their possibilities.
2. Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to drop any player you drafted
in the first ten rounds of your draft in the first few weeks.
Be patient, particularly with wide receivers as they are very inconsistent
in most scoring systems, posting a horrible week one week and then backing
it up with a good performance in the following week.
3. Be quick to grab running backs, especially as new starters are
announced or as players emerge with huge games. This does not mean
dropping a traditionally good player in order to pick up one of these running
backs, but if you have an extra D, K, TE, or even a lower tier WR, it is
probably in your best interest to drop one of them and take a chance.
RBs are in high demand and almost always carry value provided they are a
primary back for a NFL team.

NFL Week 12

Welcome to the Team (a.k.a. Pick-Up)
Chris Chambers, WR, KC - After Week 8, the Chargers dropped Chambers like a bad habit, and he has since been a man on a mission. In his three games since playing with the Chiefs, Chambers has averaged 83 yards and nearly a TD per game. His role in the offense took a sharp turn up with the news of the 4 game suspension of standout WR Dwayne Bowe. Chambers wasted no time establishing himself as the #1 WR in Bowe's absence, pulling in 4 receptions for 119 yards in a huge win over the defending Super Bowl Champs on Sunday. Now with the Chargers on the slate for Week 12, you can bet Chambers will be doing everything he can to dish out a little revenge on his old team.
Robert Meachem, WR, NO - We've got Meachem on this list yet again. Despite our best efforts to plug him, he still remains available on the waiver wire in many, many leagues across this great land. All Meachem does is catch TDs. He nailed two more on Sunday, giving him 5 TDs in his last 5 games played.
Josh Cribbs, WR, CLE - The Browns are starting to figure out they simply must get Cribbs the ball in as many ways as they can. The explosive kick and punt returner is getting more and more involved in the offense. Whether it is an endaround or bubble screen, Cribbs is getting more touches. Against Detroit, he had 4 rushes for 16 yards and 2 receptions for 39 yards and a TD. Let's face it, the Browns are going to be playing from behind each and every week, and that means Cribbs should get plenty more opportunities to touch the ball down the stretch.
Danny Amendola, WR, STL - Amendola is a Wes Welker clone. He is extremely shifty, gets open at will, and has the heart of a lion. On Sunday, he made some sparkling catches and pulled a huge 20+ yarder on a 4th down conversion (Steven Jackson owners can thank Amendola as he was ruled down on the one after nailing his diving catch... that led to Jackson's TD). All the announcers could do was talk about Amendola, and rightfully so as he is one of those electric players to watch. His stat line won't turn heads with 4 receptions for 61 yards, but he is a player that has a rising fantasy stock, and the Rams are paper-thin at receiver. Toss in the fact the Rams will always be playing from behind and need to pass to play catch-up, and Amendola warrants some thought for those in deeper leagues.
Rock Cartwright, RB, WAS - We had Cartwright on this list a couple of weeks ago as a precaution for those in deep leagues who were able to pick-up Ladell Betts after Portis went down with his injury. At the risk of making everyone paranoid, it turns out those that followed through with that plan are grinning ear to ear this morning. Unfortunately for Betts, he tore his MCL on Sunday and is done. Cartwright played well in his absence nailing 67 rushing yards on just 13 attempts and pulled in 7 receptions for 73 receiving yards. Portis has already been ruled out for next Sunday, so Cartwright will be a very hot pick-up this week as the feature back for the Skins.
Jason Snelling, RB, ATL - Snelling is another player you were hopefully able to capitalize on last week. With Michael Turner hurt, Snelling was the feature back for the Dirty Birds and delivered 76 rushing yards, 2 TDs ,and 3 receptions for 13 yards. If you started him last week, didn't it feel great getting that sort of production off a player you grabbed on the waiver wire earlier in the week?
Justin Forsett, RB, SEA - Continuing with our "RBs on our List Last Week that were easily had off the Waiver Wire", we move to Forsett, who wasted no time posting a great game in Week 12. Forsett flashed his pass-catching skills and is a tremendous dual-threat weapon out of the backfield. He ended the day with 8 receptions for 80 yards to go along with 9 yards rushing and a TD. Surprisingly, Forsett is still available for pick-up in a few leagues.
Bernard Scott, RB, CIN - Continuing with our "RBs on our... OK, you get the point. Scott ripped the Raiders for 119 rushing yards and 3 receptions for 32 yards. Scott is an explosive back that finds holes. He also ripped the longest run for the Bengals all season and was tackled just before making it to the endzone. The future looks bright for this back.
Kevin Boss, TE, NYG - It is feast or famine for Boss, and it was a feast on Sunday to the tune of 5 receptions for 76 yards and 2 TDs. Granted the Falcons have had issues with their banged up secondary as of late, which has trickled down to causing issues with getting a hat on the TE from available LBs being called into duty in other areas. However, Boss still posted great production at the TE slot and developed a little extra trust with his QB along the way making some very key catches at key points in the game.
Matt Leinhart, QB, ARI - Warner left the game against the Rams prior to the end of the first half after suffering a mild concussion. Leinhart played the second half and frankly, stunk it up, but let's face it, he is a little rusty having held a clipboard up to this point all season long. Concussions are strange beasts and the Red Birds have all kinds of receiving talent, so if you own Warner, it is probably a good idea to get Leinhart this week.
Matthew Stafford, QB, DET - Stafford went nutts on Sunday to the tune of 422 passing yards, 5 TDs, and 2 INTs. He did hurt his shoulder on the second to last play of the game, but initial results have shown no significant damage. It will be nothing short of amazing if he plays in the short week on Thanksgiving, so plan on him being out. However, 400+ yards is nothing to scoff at (Eli Manning has never done it in his career), and Stafford finally has a healthy Calvin Johnson back in the line-up. You don't get to play Cleveland every week, but we will see at least one more good game out of Stafford before the year is done.
Billy Cundiff, PK, BAL - The Ravens look to have solved their kicking issues with the signing of Cundiff. Cundiff exploded on Sunday nailing 5 FGs. The Ravens will give their kicker plenty of opportunities for Field Goals, and up to this point Cundiff has been flying a little low on the radar given his new role as the starting kicker. After his game against the Colts, he is no longer flying low on the radar, so get him if you can and need kicker help.
Show 'em the Door (a.k.a. Drop)
Note: This advice is intended for redraft leagues only.
All Raiders WRs - Things are just that bad in the Black Hole.
Ladell Betts, RB, WAS - Bett's sharp spike in fantasy value starting for the injured Clinton Portis was short lived after suffering a torn MCL in Week 11.
Ronnie Brown, RB, MIA - Brown injured his foot in Week 10 and is done for the season.
Tashard Choice, RB, DAL - For as long as Felix Jones and Marion Barber remain healthy, Choice will be too unreliable to count on week in and week out. Unless in a deep league and needing to secure the Cowboys starting RB situation in the event of injury, it is time to let Choice go and use that valuable roster slot on another player with better fantasy upside.
Chris Cooley, TE, WAS - Cooley broke his ankle under the bright lights of Monday Night during week 7. Things just got worse for a franchise already in a tailspin.
Kerry Collins, QB, TEN - The Titans are in a tailspin and Collins has lost his value as a manager of the game for their offense.
Owen Daniels, TE, HOU - Daniels is lost for the remainder of the season after going down with a knee injury in week 8.
James Davis, RB, CLE - This rookie looked great in the preseason and was set to take the job from Jamal Lewis this year, but a shoulder injury ambushed his chances and the Browns' have put him on the shelf for the rest of the season by officially placing him on injured reserve. Keep Davis in the back of your mind for 2010.
Trent Edwards, QB, BUF - Edwards is in trouble. If you own Edwards, you can drop him in most leagues. He refuses to take advantage of the weapons around him. It is sad.
Shaun Hill, QB, SF - Trouble in paradise. Alex Smith got a shot in week 7 and looked great. Now you have a mess on your hands, so best to wipe your hands clean of this.
Fred Jackson, RB, BUF - Unless you own Marshawn Lynch and would like an insurance policy if Lynch were to get injured, it is best to let Jackson go. After a fast start, Jackson's fantasy pulse has been silenced by Lynch, who put a DNR tag on Jackson's toe after week 5.
Michael Jenkins, WR, ATL - There just aren't enough balls to go around in Atlanta to give Jenkins value.
Larry Johnson, RB, KC - Trouble is brewing between Johnson and the Chiefs management. Given how horrible KC has played, they do not have much to play for and will be looking to the future. Johnson's time in KC looks to be coming to a close.
Kevin Jones, RB, CHI - Jones is out for the year after tearing a ligament in his left ankle.
Le'Ron McClain, RB, BAL - McClain's TD Vulture status has been taken over by Willis McGahee. For as long as McGahee remains healthy and able to play, McClain brings no real fantasy value to the table.
Mewelde Moore, RB, PIT - If Moore cannot do it against the Lions, we have our doubts that he will do it anywhere else. In most leagues, Moore should be fine to drop.
Muhsin Muhammad, WR, CAR - If you are the guy in our league that still owns Muhammad, drop him. Yuck. You can do better.
Chad Pennington, QB, MIA - Pennington is out for the year after injuring his shoulder in week 3.
Laurent Robinson, WR, STL - Robinson broke his fibula in week 3 and is lost for the season. Prior to the injury he was the leading receiver for the Rams. An already paper-thin receiving corps just got thinner.
JaMarcus Russell, QB, OAK - Just a joke. We know that no one actually owns this guy... other than Al Davis that is!
Derrick Ward, RB, TAM - The backfield is very cloudy in Tampa, and Ward's poor health hasn't helped make things any better. Unless in a very deep league with no options on the waiver wire for RB, it is probably best to cut Ward free at this point and use that valuable roster slot on a developing / promising player.
Leon Washington, RB, NYJ - Washington broke his leg in week 7 and is most likely lost for the season. Even if he does come back prior to the end of the season, you could use that valuable roster spot on another player who could play and help your team make the playoffs.
Troy Williamson, WR, JAX - Williamson injured his arm in week 2 and will be out of action for most, if not all of the season. Even on the remote chance he is able to return later in the year, the emergence of Mike Sims-Walker means even less balls for Williamson.
